Hurriyat Leaders Denounce India’s Military Occupation of IIOJK
January 15, 2025As India pushes false narratives and development schemes in IIOJK, Hurriyat leaders firmly assert that the region’s struggle for freedom cannot be silenced by military force or deceptive rhetoric.
Hurriyat leaders and organizations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have once again voiced their opposition to India’s continued military occupation of the region. They emphasized that no amount of so-called development projects or political rhetoric can suppress the Kashmiri people’s legitimate demand for freedom. The leaders argue that these tactics are nothing more than a façade to cover the region’s disputed status and India’s ongoing occupation.
According to Hurriyat leaders such as Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, and others, India’s control over IIOJK is sustained purely through military power. The organizations condemned the recent remarks made by Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, labeling them as deliberate distortions of historical facts. The leaders reminded the world that Jammu and Kashmir has never been an integral part of India, and such claims are simply an attempt to rewrite history. These false narratives, they assert, cannot change the region’s internationally recognized disputed status.
The Hurriyat leaders also criticized the so-called development projects that have been introduced under the banner of peace and progress. These initiatives, such as rail lines and mountain tunnels, were dismissed as military-centric projects designed to ease troop movement rather than serve the local population. The infrastructure projects are primarily aimed at enhancing India’s security along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and Line of Control (LoC), not at addressing the needs of the Kashmiri people.
The Hurriyat organizations specifically condemned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the region, which saw the Kashmir Valley turned into a virtual fortress. These oppressive measures, they argued, only exacerbated the suffering of the local population. The leaders pointed out that India continues to invest heavily in defense-oriented projects under the guise of development. They reiterated that the aim is to sustain India’s illegitimate occupation and suppress the Kashmiri demand for self-determination.
Over the past 35 years, the Kashmir conflict has led to the loss of nearly 100,000 lives, with thousands more forcibly disappeared. These human rights violations are the direct result of India’s military actions to quell the population’s desire for freedom. The Hurriyat leaders reaffirmed that despite the oppressive measures, Kashmiris remain resolute in their struggle for self-determination and will continue to resist India’s occupation.
Hurriyat leaders vowed to continue their fight for freedom, stating that the Kashmiri people have categorically rejected India’s illegal occupation. Analysts in Srinagar noted that the BJP-led government in India has implemented its plan for IIOJK by using military oppression and imposing Hindutva-driven policies. These measures, they argue, are designed to solidify India’s control over the region, yet they cannot quell the demand for Kashmiri freedom.
The ongoing struggle for self-determination in IIOJK remains as strong as ever. Despite India’s efforts to suppress the truth with military might and false development schemes, the Hurriyat leaders maintain that the region’s future lies in the hands of its people, not in India’s control.
