‘Hindutva’ is a Threat to Minorities and Hinduism itself, Says Iltija Mufti
December 9, 2024Iltija Mufti’s bold condemnation of Hindutva highlights its dangerous impact on Hinduism and the persecution of minorities—an issue that demands urgent global attention.
In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Iltija Mufti, daughter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti, has strongly condemned Hindutva ideology, describing it as a “disease” that distorts Hinduism and fuels violence against minorities, especially Muslims. Speaking in Jammu, Iltija asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is exploiting Hindutva to solidify its political base while promoting hatred and persecution.
Iltija Mufti’s remarks were aimed at the toxic spread of Hindutva, which she argued tarnishes the true essence of Hinduism—secularism, compassion, and love. On social media, she shared a video of a Muslim man being brutally beaten for refusing to chant “Jai Shri Ram,” symbolizing how Hindutva has hijacked religious symbols to justify mob violence and lynching.
“Hindutva is a disease that sullies the name of Hinduism,” Iltija wrote, emphasizing the contrast between the core values of Hinduism and the violent, supremacist rhetoric propagated by Hindutva extremists. She pointed out how “Jai Shri Ram,” once a sacred Hindu slogan, is now misused as a tool of oppression during mob attacks on Muslims.
Iltija also condemned the BJP’s approach to refugees and Kashmiri Pandits. She accused the party of politicizing the Rohingya refugee issue while turning a blind eye to the plight of Kashmiri Pandits, particularly their miserable living conditions in Jagti township. This, she argued, is yet another example of the BJP’s selective empathy, which is motivated by political gain rather than genuine concern for human rights.
The BJP quickly responded to Iltija’s remarks, with party leader Ravinder Raina demanding an apology, accusing her of using “derogatory language.” However, the reaction from the BJP only highlights their tendency to silence critics, especially when their policies and actions are under scrutiny.
Iltija Mufti’s statements bring much-needed attention to the growing threats posed by Hindutva ideologies in India, which are systematically undermining religious tolerance, democratic values, and the safety of minority communities. As political and social unrest intensifies, it’s crucial for the international community to take note of these developments and address the growing dangers posed by Hindutva’s unchecked rise in Indian politics.
