Forged Cases by Indian Authorities Against Kashmiris Condemnable: Civil Society IIOJK

India’s escalating use of unlawful detentions and fabricated cases against Kashmiris is a calculated attempt to crush their struggle for freedom and silence dissent once and for all.

Civil society activists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have raised alarm over the rising trend of unlawful detentions and false charges against Kashmiris. These actions are being described as an overt attempt by New Delhi to squeeze political dissent and suppress the region’s struggle for self-determination.

Recent events have only highlighted the harshness of India’s tactics. Two Kashmiri women were recently detained under the infamous Public Safety Act (PSA) on fabricated charges, accused of supporting the pro-freedom movement. This is not an isolated incident but part of a systematic campaign to target and intimidate those who resist Indian control.

Since India’s illegal revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, more than 25,525 Kashmiris have been detained. The total number of arrests over the past 35 years exceeds 172,464, with the majority of these individuals incarcerated under dubious charges. Civil society groups have condemned these mass detentions as a clear violation of international law, including the Geneva Conventions, which safeguard prisoners’ rights.

The Indian government has repeatedly linked the legitimate Kashmir freedom movement to terrorism, further disgracing the image of activists and fueling global misconceptions. The aim is clear: to demonize the resistance and justify its brutal actions under the guise of counterterrorism.

Activists are not silent in the face of these mistreatments. They have strongly criticized India’s use of its investigative agencies to malign the Kashmiris’ struggle. They argue that these efforts are nothing more than an expression of India’s frustration and desperation. Despite the repression, they remain firm in their belief that these tactics will ultimately fail.

The silence of global human rights organizations is deeply concerning. The international community must urgently address the issue of unlawful detentions in Kashmir and hold India accountable for its blatant violations of international norms. The continued oppression of Kashmiris cannot be ignored any longer.

“The resilience and courage of the Kashmiri people will ultimately triumph against Indian oppression,” activists assert. Their message is clear: the struggle for freedom and justice in Kashmir will not be extinguished, no matter how severe the repression.

India’s escalating use of unlawful detentions and fabricated charges to stifle Kashmir’s resistance is a clear violation of basic human rights. The world must act before it is too late.
