Earthquakes Shake Baramulla District, Minor Casualties Reported

On Tuesday morning, Baramulla district in Indian-illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) experienced two consecutive earthquakes. The initial tremors caused no significant damage or casualties, according to reports.

The Center for Seismology (NCS) recorded the earthquakes at a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter Scale. The first quake struck at 6:45 am IST, with coordinates 34.17 N latitude and 74.16 E longitude, at a depth of 5 kilometers.

The NCS confirmed, “EQ of M: 4.9, On: 20/08/2024 06:45:57 IST, Lat: 34.17 N, Long: 74.16 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir.”

While there were no immediate reports of structural damage, the tremors led to tragic incidents. In Odina, Bandipora district, a young woman was electrocuted by a live wire that fell during the earthquakes.

Additionally, a man in Baramulla district sustained injuries after jumping from a building in panic. He was promptly given a first aid and is currently in stable condition, as reported by local police.

Overall, the earthquakes caused minor disruptions but did not result in widespread damage or significant loss of life. Emergency services continue to monitor the situation and assist those affected by the tremors.
