The much-anticipated ‘Delhi Chalo Padyatra’ began on Monday from Memorial Park in Leh, Ladakh, within Indian-illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The event saw hundreds of participants and supporters.

Thupstan Chhewang, Chairman of the Leh Apex Body, officially launched the march. He was joined by Co-chairman Chering Dorje and other key figures.

The 30-day peaceful march, organized by the Leh Apex Body, aims to spotlight Ladakh’s four-point agenda. This includes the implementation of the Sixth Schedule, which is crucial for the region’s autonomy.

Leading the march is renowned environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk. The procession will conclude in Delhi on October 2, aligning with Gandhi Jayanti.

Among the participants are religious leaders, activists, and concerned citizens. Notably, 75-year-old Tsering Namgyal voiced his worries about Ladakh’s future and escalating unemployment. The march has received widespread backing, with the Kargil Democratic Alliance set to join in Delhi.

This movement builds on previous actions, including Wangchuk’s 28-day hunger strike and a 66-day strike by thousands of volunteers. Leaders in Leh have pledged to persist with their efforts.

The ‘Delhi Chalo Padyatra’ is not just a march but a significant step towards advocating for Ladakh’s rights and addressing local concerns. The broad support and high-profile leadership signal a strong commitment to achieving the movement’s goals.
