Congressman Calls for Genuine Peace in IIOJK
September 16, 2024Kanhaiya Kumar, a prominent Congress politician and former student leader, has called for “actual peace” in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), contrasting it with the current state of silence.
During a visit to Islamabad district alongside Congress IIOJK General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Kumar highlighted the distinction between silence and genuine peace. He emphasized that the ongoing silence in IIOJK fails to reflect true peace.
Kumar also addressed the widespread resentment and anger stemming from years of oppression in IIOJK. He accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of having “ill intentions” and framed the upcoming elections as a clash of ideologies: love versus hate, and justice versus injustice.
According to Kumar, this election is a referendum on the issues of oppression, unemployment, and the denial of statehood rights to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He believes that the electorate is poised to vote against these injustices.
“This election represents a struggle between love and hate, justice and injustice,” Kumar asserted. He stressed the importance of reclaiming the rights that were taken away from the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Kumar urged voters to unify and not allow their votes to be divided. He believes that a united front is essential for challenging the status quo and addressing the grievances of the region’s residents.
The IIOJK Assembly elections are set to occur in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the results scheduled for October 8. Kumar’s statements reflect a broader sentiment among those who view the elections as a critical moment for advocating fundamental rights and justice for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
