Congress President Criticizes Repressive Tactics in IIOJK
January 2, 2025In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra has fiercely condemned the authorities’ repressive tactics in handling the Katra protests over the controversial ropeway project. Speaking to the media in Jammu, Karra demanded the immediate release of detained leaders, urging the authorities to create an environment conducive to dialogue.
Accompanied by senior Congress leaders, Karra painted a grim picture of the harsh conditions faced by local leaders detained indefinitely. He argued that such inhumane treatment only hinders efforts to reach an amicable resolution. Taking aim at the administration, Karra questioned why Congress leaders, despite being part of the coalition government, are restricted from reaching Katra, while BJP leaders are granted free access. His words pointedly targeted Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the de facto ruler of IIOJK, whose policies have drawn widespread criticism.
The Congress President also expressed deep concern over the toll the ongoing shutdown has taken on local livelihoods and pilgrimage services, further escalating the situation. He highlighted the stark disparity between the treatment of Congress and BJP representatives, calling out the systemic bias and politicization of access to the region.
Karra’s comments underscore a growing discontent with the current regime’s heavy-handed approach, which continues to stifle opposition voices and curtail basic freedoms in IIOJK. With the situation in Katra still unresolved, the region faces increasing unrest and uncertainty, with the people of IIOJK left to bear the brunt of the occupation’s oppressive tactics.
