Demanding dignity and democratic rights, Congress leaders in IIOJK initiate a fresh campaign for the return of statehood to the beleaguered region.

The Jammu and Kashmir chapter of Congress has announced the launch of a six-day movement aimed at restoring statehood to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Tariq Hameed Karra, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), made the announcement during a meeting with party officials in Jammu. The movement, titled ‘Hamari Riyasat – Hamara Haq’ (Our State – Our Right), is set to begin on March 24 and continue until March 29.

Karra stressed that the campaign is focused on pressing for the early restoration of statehood, a right he said belongs to every resident of IIOJK. He declared that the Congress party is determined to escalate its struggle until the demand is fulfilled.

As part of the movement, evening marches will be held in a phased manner across different parts of the occupied territory. These marches aim to mobilize public support and amplify the call for the reinstatement of IIOJK’s statehood.

In addition to unveiling the movement, Karra criticized the BJP-led Indian government and its appointed administration in IIOJK. He highlighted how years of misgovernance under BJP rule have led to widespread suffering and hardships for ordinary citizens in the region.

The Congress leader pointed out that the revocation of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in 2019, followed by the downgrade of the region into two union territories, stripped the people of their political rights and autonomy. He reiterated that restoring statehood is crucial for addressing the aspirations and grievances of the people.

This latest move signals growing political unrest and dissatisfaction with New Delhi’s policies in IIOJK, as demands for democratic rights and self-governance continue to gain momentum.
