“Our demand is clear—complete restoration of statehood, not a watered-down version designed to benefit New Delhi,” Karra said, condemning the central government’s alleged intention to retain control over critical governance departments.

Tariq Hameed Karra, Congress President for Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), has fiercely rejected the Modi regime’s proposal for partial statehood restoration. Speaking at a Congress event in Rajouri, Karra declared that incomplete statehood is unacceptable and demanded the immediate reinstatement of full statehood to the region.

“Our demand is clear—complete restoration of statehood, not a watered-down version designed to benefit New Delhi,” Karra said, condemning the central government’s alleged intention to retain control over critical governance departments.

Karra accused the Modi government of using amendments to hold onto significant powers, effectively rendering statehood meaningless. “Such a diluted form of statehood undermines the essence of governance and violates the aspirations of the people,” he emphasized.

He further highlighted Congress’s firm opposition to any attempts to erode the region’s autonomy, warning against actions that diminish the self-governance promised to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Karra reiterated that Congress’s stance remains unwavering, citing the resolution passed by the party on August 6, 2019, in the wake of Article 370’s abrogation.

“The abrogation of Article 370 marked a dark chapter, and Congress took a resolute position against it,” Karra said. “We stand steadfast in our commitment to restore the region’s original powers and rights.”

The Congress leader accused influential individuals within the Indian government of pushing for an incomplete version of statehood, describing their efforts as a betrayal of the region’s people. He underscored the urgent need to address this betrayal by ensuring that statehood is restored fully, allowing IIOJK to function autonomously and meet the aspirations of its citizens.

Karra’s remarks come amid growing discontent in IIOJK, where New Delhi’s centralized control has sparked widespread frustration. The Modi government’s reluctance to grant full statehood is viewed by many as an attempt to tighten its grip on the region while depriving it of meaningful autonomy.

Congress’s demand for full statehood reflects the sentiments of a population yearning for self-governance and an end to New Delhi’s overreach. By rejecting partial measures, Congress has positioned itself as a strong advocate for the restoration of IIOJK’s political and administrative dignity.

The call for complete statehood restoration is not just a political demand but a challenge to the Modi regime’s authoritarian policies. Karra’s defiant tone signals that the battle for IIOJK’s rights is far from over.
