In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, CPI (M) leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami has raised serious concerns over the authorities’ neglect in compensating Kashmiri landowners whose lands have been acquired for various projects.

Tarigami highlighted the frustration among landowners due to the negligent approach of relevant departments since 2019. He specifically pointed out the indifference shown by officials associated with the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and other departments, which has caused widespread distress among the public.

“The landowners are aghast over the negligent approach adopted by concerned departments since 2019,” Tarigami stated. The lack of compensation for land procured under PMGSY and other initiatives has led to significant economic hardship for many families who relied on their land for their livelihood.

Tarigami emphasized that the indifferent behavior of officials has sparked widespread consternation among the public. Despite repeated requests and appeals, the authorities have failed to address the issue, leaving landowners in despair.

The PMGSY aims to provide road connectivity to unconnected villages. However, its implementation in Jammu and Kashmir has been marred by the failure to adequately compensate landowners. The acquisition of land for this and other projects without proper compensation has exacerbated the economic vulnerabilities of affected individuals.

Tarigami demanded immediate compensation for those affected by land acquisition under PMGSY and other initiatives. He stressed that the government must take swift action to address the grievances of landowners and ensure they receive the compensation they are entitled to.

“The authorities must not overlook the plight of the landowners. It is their right to be compensated fairly for their land, and the government must act without delay to resolve this issue,” Tarigami asserted.

The lack of timely compensation violates the rights of landowners and undermines their trust in the government and its policies. It is essential for authorities to address these concerns promptly to restore confidence among the public and ensure the fair implementation of developmental projects.

Tarigami’s statement brings to light the pressing issue of compensation for landowners in Jammu and Kashmir. Immediate action is required to provide fair compensation and alleviate the economic hardships faced by landowners. The authorities must recognize the urgency of the situation and take concrete steps to resolve their grievances, ensuring justice and fairness.
