COAS Syed Asim Munir’s Candid Discourse with US Think Tanks

General Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), engaged in a frank discussion with members of prominent U.S. think tanks and media. Throughout the interaction, the COAS conveyed Pakistan’s perspective on regional security, the challenge of transnational terrorism, and the crucial importance of maintaining strategic stability in South Asia.
The COAS expressed that Pakistan, viewed significantly from both geopolitical and geoeconomic standpoints, aspires to position itself as a central hub of connectivity and a gateway to Central Asia and beyond. Notably, Pakistan rejects Bloc Politics, opting instead to uphold balanced relationships with all friendly nations. Emphasizing a desire to expand bilateral engagement with the U.S., the COAS advocated for a long-term, multi-domain partnership.
During the U.S. visit, the COAS reported positive and forward-looking interactions with political and military leadership, aiming to further strengthen the relationship. He underscored Pakistan’s enduring role as a stronghold against transnational terrorism, contributing significantly to regional stability and global peace. Pakistan’s relentless fight against terrorism, marked by unparalleled contributions and sacrifices, is committed to continuing until a logical conclusion is reached in line with the aspirations of its people.
Addressing the Kashmir Issue, the COAS stressed the imperative of resolution in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Kashmir and UNSC Resolutions. He asserted that Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute, and no unilateral action should alter its nature against the wishes of the millions residing in the area.
