Brutal Crackdown on Kashmiri Youth Amid Global Observance
August 12, 2024On International Youth Day, Indian forces are intensifying their violent crackdown on Kashmiri youth in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir. This region, under Indian occupation, faces harsh oppression as its residents seek a plebiscite and self-determination, which are endorsed by the United Nations.
The Indian occupation forces, along with paramilitary and police units, have been conducting brutal raids and arrests disguised as routine operations. These actions have sharply escalated since August 5, 2019, when the Indian government revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and imposed a stringent military lockdown.
Recent reports reveal a grim reality: 54 Kashmiri youth have been killed, and 2,825 have been arrested this year alone. Since 1989, nearly 96,341 Kashmiris, predominantly young people, have died due to the ongoing conflict. Thousands more, including political leaders, religious figures, and activists, are currently detained in various jails across India and the region.
The reports assert that the BJP-led Indian government’s oppressive measures will not stifle the Kashmiri quest for freedom. Despite facing severe repression, the Kashmiris remain resolute in their struggle for self-determination and justice. The reports emphasize that no amount of violence will extinguish their demand for a fair resolution.
Historical evidence shows that freedom movements and political aspirations cannot be suppressed through military force and state-sponsored violence. The international community, particularly the United Nations, has a responsibility to intervene and halt the ongoing injustices and human rights abuses in Jammu and Kashmir at the hands of Indian occupation forces.
India must be held accountable for its actions and the ongoing violations of human rights in the region. The global community is urged to step in to protect the rights and lives of the Kashmiri people and to ensure that justice is served.
