Black Day in IIOJK: India’s Illegal Actions and Kashmiris’ Unshakable Resolve

The people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) observe August 5 as Black Day, marking one of the most painful chapters in their history.

On this day in 2019, the Indian government unilaterally revoked Articles 370 and 35A of its Constitution, stripping the region of its special status. This move is widely seen as illegal, unconstitutional, and in direct violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.

Kashmiris across IIOJK have strongly rejected this act, declaring it a declaration of war against their identity, land, and rights. The people have vowed to continue their peaceful struggle until their legitimate right to self-determination is recognised and respected.

Democracy Undermined, Consent Ignored

The manner in which the abrogation was carried out has drawn sharp criticism from legal experts and rights organisations.

The decision was taken without any consultation with the people or their elected representatives, and under the cover of a military lockdown. Communication services were suspended, political leaders were detained, and the region was turned into a prison.

A Clear Attempt to Change Demography

Hurriyat Calls for Shutdown and Global Protests

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), in a statement issued from Srinagar, called for a complete shutdown on August 5.

The APHC spokesman, Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, said that India’s actions were a direct attack on the disputed status of IIOJK and an attempt to erase its unique identity.

He urged the international community to take serious notice of India’s continuous human rights violations and called upon the Kashmiri diaspora to organise peaceful protests worldwide to mark the day as Black Day.

Occupation Cannot Bring Peace

The situation in IIOJK remains tense and uncertain. Thousands of civilians have been detained, basic freedoms remain restricted, and the local economy is under severe pressure.

Reports from international human rights groups confirm the widespread use of arbitrary arrests, torture, and enforced disappearances. Such policies cannot bring peace or development.

No lasting solution is possible without addressing the political aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The use of force, censorship, and legal manipulation will only deepen the crisis.

India’s actions on August 5 have serious implications for regional peace and stability. The international community, particularly the United Nations, has a responsibility to respond. Silence at this stage is not acceptable.

Pakistan has repeatedly raised the Kashmir issue on global platforms, calling for immediate reversal of the August 5 decision, the restoration of IIOJK’s special status, and implementation of UN resolutions.
