August 5 Indian Actions Breach UN Resolutions, International Law, and the Fourth Geneva Convention: Pak Deputy PM
August 5, 2024Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, condemned India’s unilateral actions on August 5, 2019, as blatant violations of UN Security Council resolutions, international laws, and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Speaking at a walk commemorating Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir, Dar called India’s revocation of Articles 370 and 35A an attempt to usurp Kashmiri rights through constitutional amendments. He emphasized Pakistan’s historical, geographical, and religious ties with Kashmir, stating that Pakistan could never dissociate itself from the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Dar criticized India’s claims of championing human rights and democracy, urging it to grant access to human rights bodies to observe the ongoing abuses in IIOJK. He highlighted Pakistan’s consistent efforts to raise the Kashmir issue at international forums such as the United Nations, OIC, and D-8. He also mentioned Pakistan’s advocacy for Gaza, where thousands of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces.
Reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering political, moral, and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people, Dar urged India to allow a plebiscite in the occupied territory, enabling Kashmiris to exercise their right to self-determination. He asserted that India’s tactics, including the revocation of Kashmir’s special status, aimed to change the region’s demography by settling non-Muslims to turn the Muslim majority into a minority.
Dar concluded by praying for the Kashmiris’ right to freedom and self-determination and raised slogans of “Kashmir banay ga Pakistan” (Kashmir will become Pakistan).
Earlier, Pakistani Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Qazi led the walk in Islamabad. The event, attended by federal ministers and people from various walks of life, featured participants carrying flags and banners condemning India’s ongoing occupation and brutalities in IIOJK.
