Arundhati Roy Condemns Modi Government for Supporting Gaza Genocide
August 7, 2024Arundhati Roy, a renowned Indian author and activist, has strongly criticized the Modi-led Indian government for its stance on the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Speaking at the Indian Press Club, Roy accused the Indian government of being complicit in what she described as a “genocide” of Palestinians in Gaza. She asserted that India is not only politically aligned with Israel but is also directly involved by supplying arms and ammunition used in the conflict.
Roy condemned India’s actions, stating that the country has increasingly promoted war and extremism under the guise of being a champion of peace. She called on Indian citizens to express their disapproval of the government’s support for Israel and urged for an immediate halt to the export of weapons to Israel. According to Roy, it is crucial for Indians to show solidarity with Palestine and oppose the government’s actions, which she believes contribute to global conflicts and support “heinous elements” under the current administration.
Her statements have sparked further debate on India’s foreign policy and its role in global conflicts, particularly in relation to its defense ties with Israel and its implications for the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
