The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has issued a strong demand for India to release all political prisoners, including Hurriyat leaders, and to repeal oppressive laws. This call for change is critical for creating an environment where meaningful dialogue can take place between India, Pakistan, and genuine representatives of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas, speaking from Srinagar, reminded the world that Jammu and Kashmir is a United Nations-recognized disputed region. The Indian government’s unconstitutional actions, particularly those on August 5, 2019, cannot change this fact. No matter how much India tries to alter the ground reality through force and manipulation, the international status of IIOJK remains unchanged.

Minhas also highlighted India’s repeated violation of its commitments to the United Nations. The UN had passed resolutions decades ago, calling for the peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue through a plebiscite. Yet, these resolutions have been ignored, and the UN has failed to take any meaningful action, leaving the Kashmiri people to suffer the consequences of India’s continued occupation.

The APHC’s message to India is clear: release detained Kashmiri leaders, revoke draconian laws like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), and allow a peaceful atmosphere where genuine dialogue can take place. Minhas emphasized that the Kashmiri people do not seek confrontation or conflict. Their desire is peace, and they are determined to find a peaceful resolution to this prolonged crisis.

Moreover, the APHC spokesperson called on the United Nations to step in and mediate a result-oriented dialogue between India and Pakistan. The worsening human rights situation in IIOJK, including widespread abuses by Indian forces, demands urgent international attention. The UN must not continue to ignore the atrocities being committed in the region.

The APHC has been relentless in pushing for international involvement to achieve a just, honorable, and lasting solution to the Kashmir conflict. Kashmiris cannot be expected to remain silent while India continues to suppress their basic rights, imprison their leaders, and undermine their identity.

India’s policies have only worsened the situation in IIOJK, fueling anger and resentment. The time has come for the international community to hold India accountable. If dialogue is to have any hope of success, the current oppressive conditions must end. Only then can IIOJK move toward a lasting peace, free from occupation and repression.

The message is clear: the struggle for Kashmir’s rights and freedom will not be silenced by force. Peaceful resolution, not violence, is the only way forward.
