APHC Urges UN for Urgent Action on Kashmir Dispute Amid Growing Tensions
March 20, 2025As the Kashmir issue intensifies, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) calls for urgent UN intervention to resolve the long-standing conflict and ensure lasting peace.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has called on the United Nations to implement its resolutions on Kashmir without delay, urging international action for lasting peace in South Asia. In a statement issued from Srinagar, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas blamed Indian leadership for the ongoing political instability, chaos, and war-like tensions in the region.
The statement strongly condemned remarks made by India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, regarding Pakistan and Kashmir, describing India’s actions as the longest-standing illegal occupation following World War II. APHC emphasized that this occupation has been maintained through a massive military presence in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), causing immense suffering for the local population. Minhas called for the intervention of the international community, especially as Indian forces continue to escalate state-sponsored violence in the region.
Advocate Minhas urged India to abandon its rigid stance and engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue in line with UN resolutions. These resolutions outline that the future of Jammu and Kashmir should be determined by a democratic, free, and impartial referendum. He lamented India’s ongoing repression, including the deployment of over one million troops in the region and the use of draconian laws that enable Indian forces to commit atrocities with impunity.
Minhas also criticized India’s recent actions, such as issuing domiciles to thousands of Hindus, allowing them to acquire land and employment rights in the disputed territory. This move, according to the APHC, is part of India’s broader agenda to undermine Kashmir’s Muslim-majority status and erase its cultural identity. The APHC expressed concern that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are attempting to erase the distinct identity, culture, and land rights of the Kashmiri people.
The statement further praised Pakistan for consistently supporting the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination, advocating for the implementation of the UN resolutions in all international forums. Pakistan’s firm stance on the Kashmir dispute has been a cornerstone of its foreign policy and has gained considerable international attention.
In a related development, posters appeared in the Rafiabad area of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir, ahead of Pakistan Day on March 23. The posters, which were also shared widely on social media platforms, carried messages calling for an end to India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir and asserted that “Jammu and Kashmir is part of Pakistan.” These actions highlight the ongoing unrest and the growing demand for an end to Indian rule in the region.
