Srinagar, April 1 – The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has strongly denounced the recent statement made by Indian-installed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha regarding the closure of the United Nations office in Srinagar, calling it a “ridiculous” attempt to distort reality.

APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, condemned Manoj Sinha’s assertions as a deliberate move to mislead the international community about the actual situation in the India illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

During a media interview in Srinagar today, Manoj Sinha claimed that there is no longer a need for the United Nations office in the city, citing so-called “improved conditions” in the occupied territory. However, the APHC swiftly rejected these claims, emphasizing that Jammu and Kashmir remain an internationally recognized dispute, irrespective of any security situation portrayed by Indian authorities.

The APHC spokesman underscored that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir is fundamentally about the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people, a fact reaffirmed by multiple UN resolutions. He further asserted that the presence of the UN office in Srinagar serves as a crucial reminder of the unresolved status of the territory under international law.

The APHC called upon the United Nations and the global community to dismiss India’s misleading narratives and to reaffirm their commitment to the implementation of UN resolutions that recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The organization reiterated that India’s unilateral attempts to project normalcy in the region are aimed at whitewashing its continued human rights violations and suppression of the Kashmiri people’s struggle for freedom.

As India intensifies its efforts to control the narrative on Kashmir, the APHC warned that the ground reality remains unchanged: IIOJK is an occupied territory where fundamental rights continue to be trampled under military rule. The rejection of Manoj Sinha’s statement serves as yet another assertion that the Kashmiri people’s demand for self-determination cannot be silenced by propaganda and political maneuvering.
