APHC: India Using Repressive Laws to Silence Kashmir

Srinagar: In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has accused the Indian government of fostering an atmosphere of fear and repression to crush the region’s ongoing freedom movement.

According to a statement issued in Srinagar, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas alleged that New Delhi is deliberately targeting Hurriyat leaders and pro-freedom activists by misusing repressive laws such as the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Public Safety Act (PSA), and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

He stated that Indian forces are conducting raids on the homes of Hurriyat leaders, political activists, and even ordinary Kashmiris. “Leaders are being detained, activists are harassed, and properties are being seized,” he said. “The people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir are being forced to live under the constant threat of Indian state oppression.”

Minhas emphasized that these aggressive tactics are not only aimed at silencing dissent but also at intimidating the broader population into submission. He urged the international community to take notice of the growing human rights violations and to intervene in what he described as a systematic campaign to erase the Kashmiri identity and suppress the legitimate struggle for self-determination.

The APHC’s statement comes amid increasing crackdowns in the region, drawing criticism from human rights groups and raising concerns about India’s use of force and legal mechanisms to stifle political expression and civil liberties in IIOJK.
