APHC Condemns India’s Actions in IIOJK, Rejects Modi’s Visit and Abdullah’s Remarks
January 14, 2025The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and key Kashmiri leaders have condemned India’s ongoing actions in Jammu and Kashmir, reaffirming that the region’s disputed status remains unshakable, despite Indian claims.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and several prominent Hurriyat leaders have sharply criticized India’s actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), emphasizing that Kashmir’s disputed status is undeniable by India or any global power. The leaders also condemned the recent remarks made by Omar Abdullah during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the region, calling them an affront to the political rights of the Kashmiri people.
In a statement issued from Srinagar, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas strongly rebuked Abdullah for his statements, which he described as an insult to the people of Kashmir who had previously voted for him. Minhas noted that the Kashmiri electorate had hoped Abdullah would advocate for their political rights, but instead, he aligned himself with Modi, betraying the trust placed in him.
The condemnation of Abdullah’s remarks was echoed by other prominent Hurriyat leaders, including Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Dr. Musaib, Imtiyaz Rishi, and Maulana Syed Sibte Shabbir Qummi, as well as organizations such as the Democratic Freedom Party, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Muslim League, and Kashmir Tehreek-e-Khawateen. These leaders pointed out that Abdullah’s political alignment with Modi goes against the very principles that his party, the National Conference, had long championed—opposition to Modi’s policies and support for Kashmir’s autonomy.
Leaders from the Hurriyat described Abdullah’s actions as a betrayal of the Kashmiri people, accusing him and his ancestors of exploiting the sentiments of the electorate for personal gain. They particularly condemned his praise for Modi, whom they consider responsible for the revocation of Article 370, the erosion of Kashmir’s special status, and the ongoing oppression of the Kashmiri people.
The leaders also vehemently rejected Modi’s visit to Kashmir, calling it an attempt to further the anti-Kashmir agenda of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). They referred to Modi as the face of Indian oppression in Kashmir, asserting that the government’s so-called development programs were nothing more than a façade to mask the reality of repression, occupation, and human rights violations in the region.
The Hurriyat leaders reiterated that Kashmiris do not seek development under occupation but instead demand their internationally recognized right to self-determination through a plebiscite, as per United Nations resolutions. They argued that Modi’s visit was a continuation of India’s oppressive tactics and deceitful attempts to legitimize its illegal occupation of the region.
Concluding the statement, the leaders rejected the notion that visits by Indian leaders or local collaborators could alter the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. They called for a resolution to the Kashmir issue that reflects the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, in line with UN resolutions, and urged the international community to recognize India’s illegal occupation and support the Kashmiri struggle for freedom and justice.
