APHC Calls for Justice Amid Ethnic Cleansing in IIOJK
December 12, 2024As India intensifies its repression in IIOJK, the world’s silence speaks volumes—will global institutions act, or is justice for Kashmiris lost forever?
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has raised alarm over the denial of basic political rights to Kashmiris, accusing India of engaging in ethnic cleansing in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). In a recent statement from Srinagar, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas highlighted the gravity of the situation, calling for international intervention to end India’s blatant violations of international laws that silence Kashmiri voices advocating for their right to self-determination.
During a seminar held in Srinagar, APHC and civil society members condemned the ongoing human rights abuses, calling the brutalities against Kashmiris a humiliation to humanity. They pointed to the deafening silence of international human rights organizations, which have failed to hold India accountable for its ongoing crimes in the region.
The speakers rejected India’s aggression, illegal occupation, and the persistent denial of Kashmiris’ sacred right to self-determination. They also condemned the rising tide of Hindutva extremism, driven by India’s ruling BJP, under which Kashmiris are subjected to violence and discrimination. The Hindu-dominated Indian forces and the appointed Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, were accused of perpetrating war crimes with impunity, without facing any consequences for their actions.
Pointing to India’s colonial ambitions in the region, the speakers emphasized that Kashmiris have been stripped of even the minimal protections promised by United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. They highlighted the routine conduct of cordon-and-search operations, house raids, arbitrary arrests, torture, and the seizure of property, all of which have become everyday occurrences under the illegal Indian occupation.
The situation in IIOJK is deteriorating, and the APHC insists that immediate international intervention is necessary to protect Kashmiris from the continued violence unleashed by Modi’s government. The international community, they argued, must uphold the principle that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” and must act before the credibility of global institutions, particularly the United Nations, is further undermined. The lack of global action on IIOJK is increasingly discrediting the United Nations and undermining its legitimacy.
India’s aggressive policies in IIOJK have exposed the deepening crisis in the region. While Kashmiris continue to suffer under occupation, the international community’s indifference only deepens their despair.
