When peaceful voices are silenced and leaders imprisoned, can justice truly prevail in IIOJK?

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) has denounced the continued detention of Hurriyat leaders and human rights defenders in Indian jails and in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The organization strongly criticized the harsh tactics used by India to suppress the freedom movement in the region.

According to the APHC-AJK, hundreds of prominent Hurriyat leaders and activists remain behind bars, facing mistreatment and denial of basic rights. In their separate statements from Islamabad, APHC-AJK Information Secretary Mushtaq Ahmed Butt and other Hurriyat leaders asserted that no amount of torture, arrests, or property seizures can break the resolve of the Kashmiri people.

They called on the international community, particularly global human rights organizations, to intervene and speak out against the ongoing violations in IIOJK. The leaders urged these bodies to hold India accountable for its oppressive actions, emphasizing that Kashmiris continue to face systematic human rights abuses.

The APHC-AJK leaders specifically appealed to the United Nations and various human rights organizations to exert pressure on India for the immediate release of all detained Hurriyat leaders and activists. Among those mentioned were prominent figures like Khurram Parvez, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, Masarat Alam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Yasin Malik, Molvi Bashir Irfani, Muhammad Qasim Faktoo, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Ayaz Akbar, Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmida Sufi, and Naheeda Nasreen.

They stressed that these unlawful detentions are part of a broader strategy to silence voices demanding Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. The leaders reiterated that India must be held responsible for its continued violations of international law and humanitarian principles in IIOJK.

The APHC-AJK urged the world to take a firm stand and support the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people, emphasizing that justice and peace in the region cannot be achieved without addressing these grave concerns.
