APHC-AJK Condemns 32-Year-Old Babri Masjid Demolition by Hindu Extremists in India
December 7, 202432 years after the Babri Masjid’s destruction, APHC-AJK condemns the BJP-led Hindu extremists’ ongoing assault on India’s Muslim heritage and identity.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) has strongly condemned the demolition of the Babri Masjid by the extremist factions associated with the ruling BJP, RSS, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, an act that occurred 32 years ago. The party’s leaders, including Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Pervaiz Ahmed, and Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, voiced their outrage in a statement issued from Islamabad. They underscored that the destruction of the Babri Masjid and the subsequent construction of a Hindu temple in its place was a deliberate affront to the sentiments of millions of Muslims globally.
The Hurriyat leaders didn’t stop at the condemnation of the Babri Masjid incident but also warned about ongoing conspiracies led by Hindu extremists. These groups are allegedly targeting other historic mosques in India, with the aim of further marginalizing Muslims and their cultural heritage. The leaders accused the ruling BJP of promoting a fascist ideology, one that envisions India as a Hindu-majority state, systematically undermining the rights of religious minorities, particularly Muslims. According to them, the demolition of Babri Masjid is just one chapter in a series of events that reflect the BJP’s intolerance and aggression toward India’s Muslim population.
Furthermore, the Hurriyat leaders pointed to the genocidal violence against Muslims under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, specifically referencing the Gujarat massacre. They stated that under the BJP, the lives of all minorities—especially Muslims—have become increasingly perilous. The targeting of Muslim communities, the destruction of mosques, and the persistent marginalization of Muslims, they argue, reflect the BJP’s broader strategy to transform India into a Hindu nationalist state.
The APHC-AJK leaders expressed grave concern over the BJP’s policies in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing the Indian government of issuing domicile certificates to non-Kashmiri Hindus. This move, they argued, is an attempt to alter the region’s demographic balance, converting the Muslim-majority territory of Kashmir into a minority-controlled region. They further warned that these actions, combined with the violent suppression of the Kashmiri people, would ultimately lead to the erasure of Kashmir’s distinct Muslim identity.
In light of these concerns, the Hurriyat leaders called on the United Nations, the Islamic world, and global human rights organizations to step up and protect the lives, properties, honor, and places of worship of Muslims in India and Kashmir. They urged these international bodies to take concrete steps in defending the rights of religious minorities who continue to face systematic persecution under the BJP-led Indian government.
The APHC-AJK’s statements underscore the deepening crisis for Muslims in India and Kashmir, highlighting a disturbing trend of increasing violence, discrimination, and attempts to erase the region’s religious and cultural heritage. The leaders’ appeal for international intervention emphasizes the growing need for global solidarity in the face of rising Hindu extremism and state-sponsored oppression.
