Amnesty International Sounds Alarm on Human Rights Violations in IIOJK
September 26, 2024Amnesty International’s recent press release highlights alarming human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The organization condemns arbitrary restrictions, harassment, and intimidation tactics used to silence dissenting voices.
Authorities are misusing laws like PSA and UAPA to usurp basic human rights without due process. Over 100 passports have been revoked, affecting notable individuals like Masarat Zahra, Waheed Para, and Iltija Mufti.
Journalists Majid Haideri and Sajjad Gul face arbitrary detention, while Amrit Wilson’s OCI status was cancelled due to criticism of Article 370’s abrogation. Professor Nitasha Kaul was denied entry into India.
There’s been a 7% increase in PSA cases since 2019, with 37% of UAPA cases registered in IIOJK. Forty government officials were terminated without appeal.
Amnesty International urges India to release detainees under PSA and UAPA, ensure human rights in IIOJK, and restore statehood.
