Cultural preservation is essential for any community, yet recent events in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir have raised concerns about a deliberate attempt to undermine local traditions and values.

National Conference senior leader and Member of Parliament from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, has expressed shock and outrage over reports of an indecent fashion show held at the world-famous ski resort of Gulmarg during the holy month of Ramazan. He criticized the event for displaying a blatant disregard for the religious and cultural sentiments of the Kashmiri people.

In a statement, Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi denounced the fashion show as a cultural invasion disguised as tourism promotion. He stressed that such events are part of a broader agenda to dilute Kashmiri traditions and religious values.

Taking to social media platform X, his office posted, “The images from Gulmarg are shocking. This is what cultural invasion in the disguise of tourism looks like. They show an utter disregard for Kashmiri sentiments.”

Mehdi further demanded strict action against the officials and organizers involved in facilitating the event. He called for immediate accountability, stating that the Tourism Department officials responsible for allowing such an event must be held to task.

His criticism echoes growing concerns among Kashmiri leaders and civil society activists, who argue that such events are an attempt to impose cultural changes in the region under the pretext of tourism development. Many believe that these activities contribute to the systematic erosion of IIOJK’s identity and must be addressed to preserve the region’s rich heritage.
