International Students Targeted at Gujarat University by Hindutva Goons
March 20, 2024In a distressing incident at Gujarat University, a group of international students has fallen victim to a violent attack by a Hindu mob. The attack, fueled by religious intolerance, targeted students from diverse backgrounds, including Africa, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and more. The perpetrators unleashed a wave of brutality against these students for simply observing tarawih prayers during the holy month of Ramadan within the confines of the university hostel.
The horrifying ordeal unfolded as the assailants, armed with sticks and knives, launched a frenzied assault on the students, pelting stones and wreaking havoc on hostel property. What should have been a time for peaceful reflection and religious observance turned into a nightmare for these foreign students, who found themselves subjected to senseless violence solely because of their faith and cultural practices.
The attack not only poses a grave threat to the safety and well-being of international students but also highlights a deeply concerning trend of religious intolerance within the university campus and the broader society. Such acts of aggression not only undermine the principles of diversity and inclusivity but also tarnish the reputation of educational institutions as safe havens for learning and cultural exchange.
It is imperative for the authorities to swiftly investigate this incident and hold the perpetrators accountable for their reprehensible actions. Additionally, measures must be taken to ensure the safety and security of all students, regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, or religious beliefs. This includes implementing robust anti-discrimination policies, fostering interfaith dialogue, and promoting a culture of tolerance and respect within the university community
Therefore, it is essential for the Indian government and the society as a whole to unequivocally condemn such acts of violence and stand in solidarity with the victims. India being a multicultural and pluralistic society, prides itself on its racist Hindutva identity. Incidents like these serve as a show of the extremist policies of the Indian government towards other religious communities, especially Muslims.
