The global community must act urgently as Kashmiris continue to face relentless oppression under India’s unlawful occupation.

A Kashmiri delegation staged a strong protest outside the United Nations office in Geneva, condemning India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and the severe human rights violations committed by Indian forces.

The demonstration was attended and addressed by APHC-AJK convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Chairman of the Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) Altaf Hussain Wani, KIIR Executive Director Sardar Amjad Yousuf, Advocate Parvez Shah, Zaid Hashmi, Asif Jaral, Shugufta Asharaf, and others. The speakers urged the UN Commission to intervene immediately to prevent further bloodshed and safeguard human rights in the disputed region.

Highlighting the dire conditions of Kashmiri prisoners, the speakers revealed that thousands of Kashmiris are imprisoned in jails far from their homeland. They noted that dozens of Kashmiri women, detained in Tihar Jail and other Indian prisons, endure harsh and degrading conditions. The speakers accused Indian authorities of using arbitrary detentions as a tool of repression against Kashmiri political leaders, civil society activists, journalists, lawyers, and human rights defenders.

The speakers further emphasized that authorities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have long relied on unlawful arrests and prolonged detentions under draconian laws to silence dissent and instill fear among the local population. They asserted that it is high time for the UN to confront the Indian government on these violations and push for the immediate release of all Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders and activists who have been unjustly imprisoned.
