Bangladesh’s interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, calls for political unity to counter alleged Indian disinformation and safeguard the nation’s future.

Muhammad Yunus, has urged the country’s political factions to set aside their differences and unite in the face of alleged Indian aggression. His remarks follow the turmoil that led to the ousting of autocratic Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August.

In a speech addressing a gathering of political leaders, Yunus emphasized the need for national solidarity. “They are undermining our efforts to build a new Bangladesh by spreading fictitious stories,” he stated. Yunus specifically pointed to India, which he accused of promoting disinformation through influential foreign networks.

Yunus’s call for unity came in the wake of a student-led uprising that toppled Hasina’s government after 15 years in power. The unrest followed a turbulent period of political oppression and has led to the rise of a caretaker administration, headed by Yunus. This interim government is tasked with implementing democratic reforms and preparing for fresh elections.

During his address, Yunus also warned of the impact of what he called a “disinformation campaign” being waged by India. He described the situation as “a question of our existence,” urging all political factions to put aside their rivalries for the sake of national security and unity. The campaign, according to Yunus, was designed to damage Bangladesh’s efforts to rebuild its democratic system.

The political chaos after Hasina’s ouster has been marked by reprisal attacks, particularly against Hindus and other minorities, many of whom were perceived as supporters of the former government. Yunus’s administration has condemned these attacks, clarifying that they were largely politically motivated rather than religious in nature.

Yunus also accused India of exaggerating the scale of violence and running a propaganda campaign against Bangladesh. His government insists that the events have been misrepresented to damage the country’s international image and further destabilize the region.

The caretaker administration, led by Yunus, is focused on restoring peace and promoting unity within Bangladesh. As part of this effort, Yunus also met with student leaders, acknowledging their role in the political transition and emphasizing the importance of youth involvement in the democratic process.

Yunus’s comments highlight the ongoing tension between Bangladesh and India, with political leaders and citizens urged to prioritize national unity and resist external attempts to undermine the country’s sovereignty.
