Int’l Day for Abolition of Slavery: Human Rights Activists Expose India’s Modern-Day Slavery in IIOJK
December 2, 2024On the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, human rights activists accuse India of perpetuating modern-day slavery in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) through forced disappearances, torture, and systematic suppression of dissent.
On this day, human rights activists in IIIOJK have condemned India’s oppressive tactics, calling them a form of modern-day slavery. They accuse the Indian government of systematically subjugating and exploiting the Kashmiri people.
Activists and organizations have sharply criticized India for its actions, which they argue are designed to crush the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination. The abuse, they say, includes forced disappearances, torture, arbitrary detentions, and sexual violence. According to these groups, India has institutionalized sexual violence as a weapon against Kashmiri women, making it a horrific embodiment of modern slavery.
The rights advocates point out that these abuses are not isolated incidents but part of a deliberate policy to erode Kashmiri identity and culture. They argue that India is pushing through demographic changes, seizing Kashmiri land, and silencing any dissent in an effort to reshape the region in its image. These actions, they claim, are part of a broader strategy to break the spirit of the Kashmiri people and assert Indian dominance.
Despite this onslaught, the Kashmiri people’s resistance remains steadfast. Many in the region continue to pledge their determination to break free from what they describe as “Indian slavery.” They refuse to be silenced, standing firm in their fight for self-determination and justice.
Human rights groups are calling on the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take a stronger stance against India’s oppressive actions in IIOJK. They urge the UN to implement resolutions that respect the wishes of the Kashmiri people and to hold India accountable for the abuses.
The international community’s failure to act has been a source of frustration for Kashmiri activists. Despite years of violence and repression, India’s strategies to crush the Kashmiri resistance continue to be met with global indifference. Yet, activists remain unyielding, confident that India’s tactics will ultimately fail.
India’s ongoing assault on Kashmiri identity is a direct violation of human rights. The region’s fight for freedom is far from over, and as the oppression intensifies, so does the resilience of the people who continue to demand their right to live without fear of subjugation.
