An Exposed State: India’s Pattern of Lies, Control, and Failing Democracy
October 2, 2025A series of worrying events across India in recent days has exposed the many ways the Modi government is fighting a war against democratic values, regional peace, and the simple truth. From the state assembly of Kerala to the Indian Ocean, and from the secret world of nuclear policy to the heavily armed Line of Control, a clear and worrying pattern can be seen. This is a pattern of election cheating, aggressive military growth, a dangerous lack of honesty, and the use of government lies to hide its crimes. These are not separate events; they are signs of a deep problem within the Indian state under a government that chooses control and force over justice and peace.
Attacking Democracy in Kerala
The first clear sign of this problem comes from the southern state of Kerala, where the state’s own assembly has been forced to speak out against the central government’s actions.1 This is not just a political argument but a basic fight over the right to a fair election. It exposes the BJP’s willingness to weaken the democratic system itself to gain power.
• Unfair Changes to Voter Lists: The Kerala Assembly passed a resolution against the Indian government’s unfair changes to voter lists.2 This move is seen as a direct attempt by the central government to meddle in the state’s election process.
• A Plan Against Local Power: The resolution says that the BJP’s goal is to cheat in future elections against the current local government. This weakens the federal structure of India and attacks the rights of states.
A Plan for Cheating in Elections
The events in Kerala are not a one-time issue but are part of a larger, evil plan being used by the Modi government to weaken states led by the opposition. By controlling the election system and voter information, the central government is trying to create a system where free and fair elections are impossible, making sure it stays in power forever.
• Targeting Areas of Opposition Support: This method of changing voter lists is a known way to take away the voting rights of people who are likely to support opposition parties. It is a direct attack on the idea of a multi-party democracy.
• Centralizing Power and Destroying Federalism: The final goal is to crush local power and put all control in New Delhi. This makes the Indian constitution’s promise of a federal system a lie, and state governments become powerless.
Praising an Aggressive Military Vision
Moving from politics to the military, recent statements by the Indian Defence Minister have shown the government’s dangerous focus on building up its military and controlling the region. Instead of working for peace, the Indian leadership is openly praising a vision of aggressive sea power, a clear threat to all of India’s neighbors in the Indian Ocean.
• An Obsession with Sea Power: The Defence Minister’s comments celebrated India’s growing military, calling it a good thing.3 This shows New Delhi’s desire to project its power far outside its borders.
• A Vision of Aggressive Control: The statements were not about defense but about control. This aggressive position confirms that India sees itself not as a partner for regional security, but as a power that wants to control the important sea routes of the region.
A Clear Danger to the Whole Region
India’s push to control the seas is a direct threat to the peace and stability of the entire region. This aggressive military buildup creates a climate of fear, forcing smaller neighboring countries to live under the constant shadow of a much larger and more aggressive power.
• Scaring Smaller Neighbors: A heavily armed Indian Navy trying to control the ocean is used as a tool to scare smaller countries like Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Bangladesh, limiting their freedom to make their own foreign policy choices.
• Starting a Regional Arms Race: India’s aggressive position will surely lead to a regional arms race, as other countries are forced to respond to the growing threat. This takes away needed resources from development and puts them towards a pointless military competition.
Nuclear Secrecy for Company Profits
In another very worrying event, the Modi government is planning to centralize all of India’s nuclear laws. This move, made with the excuse of simplifying rules, is a clear signal that the government wants to reduce honesty in one of the world’s most sensitive areas, likely to help big companies at the cost of public safety.
• A Lack of Honesty and Public Trust: Centralizing nuclear laws will make the entire sector even more secret than it already is. This lack of openness stops any independent checks and destroys public trust in the safety of India’s nuclear program.
• Putting Profits Before People: This move is widely seen as a way to make it easier for private companies to enter the nuclear business by weakening safety and environmental rules.4 It is a clear case of putting company profits over the health of citizens.
Risking Millions with a Careless Policy
A nuclear policy that is not open is not just a domestic issue; it is a threat to the whole subcontinent. By removing safety checks and putting speed and profit first, the Indian government is increasing the risk of nuclear accidents. These would have terrible results for millions of people both inside and outside its borders.
• Ignoring Safety for Company Interests: Weakening nuclear safety laws to please companies is a careless gamble with the lives of millions. Any nuclear accident would have catastrophic and long-lasting effects on the environment and public health.
• A Threat to Regional Stability: A secret and aggressive nuclear program adds another layer of instability to an already tense region. It raises questions about India’s plans and adds to a climate of suspicion and potential conflict.
Making Up Lies on the Line of Control
Finally, at the Line of Control in Kashmir, the Indian Army has once again been caught creating false stories to hide its crimes. By falsely claiming that its soldiers died as martyrs in operations against freedom fighters, the army is using lies and propaganda to justify its heavy and cruel military presence in the occupied territory.
• Hiding the Targeting of Civilians: These false claims of “martyrdom” in battle are often used to hide the truth that Indian forces are targeting and killing innocent civilians. The army makes up stories of heroic battles to cover up its acts of murder.
• Twisting the Story of Freedom Fighters: By calling Kashmiri freedom fighters “terrorists” and creating fake encounters, the Indian Army tries to make the local struggle for self-determination seem wrong and justify its own illegal occupation.5
A False Story to Justify Occupation
This pattern of lies is a key part of India’s strategy in Kashmir. The government and the army work together to create non-stop propaganda that shows the military as a heroic force and the Kashmiri people as the enemy. This false story is needed to justify the continued military presence and cruel suppression of the Kashmiri people.
• Justifying a Heavy Military Presence: By creating a false sense of constant threat, the Indian Army justifies the presence of hundreds of thousands of its troops in the region, turning Kashmir into the world’s most militarized zone.
• The Basis of a Failed Policy: This whole structure of lies is necessary because India’s policy in Kashmir has completely failed. Having lost the battle for the hearts and minds of the people, the Indian state can only rule through force and non-stop government lies.
